Author pics

I saw my proofs! You can see a sampling of them on my photographer's blog at http://www.churchillsphotography.blogspot.com/. I'll post more about it when I get back home where I'm not on dial-up. :-) Have a blessed Easter!

The Dreaded Day

Tomorrow is my official author photo shoot. The day I've been dreading. I hate having my picture taken. Well, maybe I wouldn't mind it so much if I was guaranteed a good outcome. But for that, I think I would need a personal shopper, a stylist, a--well, how about just getting a stand in model? :-) I've been dreaming about frantically searching malls for the right outfit. Never did find it, of course.

The good news is I'm excited about photographers. :-) John Paul and Jolie, a husband and wife team, have been friends of mine since I was in high school. Their photography business is fairly new, but they do a great job. Check them out at http://www.churchillsphotography.com/. But make sure to look at their pictures BEFORE they post mine. :-) I don't want you to lose any sleep...like I'll be doing tonight.

If it's not too traumatic, I'll post about my experience later. :-)

Progress

I took down my wall of shame a couple days ago. Just thought I'd let you know. :-)

Happy Valentine's Day

Apparently we need to have more holidays, since that’s the only time I actually blog. But anyway. In honor of Valentine’s Day, I thought I’d give an outline of Jason and Jenness Walker’s love story. I think it’s kind of fun, but then, it’s my life.

1. We lived next door as babies, but have no memories of that.

2. Which means my first memory of Jason was in his home in FL after they moved away. (Our parents remained friends.) I despised going to the Walker house, because that meant my brothers and Jason and his brother went into the boys’ room and hung out, barring me from entering. So I was stuck in the living room with a keyboard to keep me company. On one visit—I was probably 10 or so—Jason and my brother Anthony condescended to join me in the living room for a few minutes. I was wearing my favorite dress, and Jason looked at me and said, “You look pretty.” I was in mid-blush when he added, “Pretty ugly.” Chortle, snort. He and Anthony walked away laughing, and I hated him for years.

3. And then he moved to town as a high school junior. I pretty much ignored him until we went on a missions trip to Mexico together. And there, watching over the twinkling city lights of Saltillo, we fell in love. Well, I did, anyway. Jason was too busy flirting with the other girls and passing messages through my best friend that he couldn’t date me.

4. Which obviously wasn’t the case, since we were inseparable for months afterward and then started dating. The truth is, he was scared of my dad. Poor fella.

5. We lasted for a year, then I broke up with him the summer before I became a senior. I didn’t want to, but felt like I needed to. (He still razzes me about that.)

6. Soon thereafter, I was ready to get back together. I told him in a fish store. He basically told me, not if you were the last woman on earth.

7. I don’t like fish stores.

8. But I had a dream—it said I was the only girl he could ever marry for love. Apparently some of my dreams come true. Terrifying thought.

9. We finally became friends again. Good friends. In fact, no one would ask me out because they thought Jason and I were more than friends. Which became rather aggravating, since he insisted that we weren’t and never would be.

10. So I went to a wedding. Met a fascinating guy. Actually asked for his email address. Came home and talked about him. A lot. I finally got an email from him—kind of a form letter thing saying he’d changed his email address and here’s his new one. Then, at the end, there was a P.S. that said, “Oh, by the way, this is really Jason…”

11. It’s dangerous to have a computer guru guy. You’ve been warned.

12. I got fed up with Jason. He didn’t want to date me but didn’t want anyone else to, either. So I decided to go out of town to a youth convention. Maybe I’d meet a few nice guys there, without Jason hovering.

13. Jason tagged along.

14. After I finally accused him of “acting like you like me!!!!”—figured that would get him to run for cover—he looked me in the eye and said simply, “I do.”

15. In 2003, we both said, “I do.”

So...what's your love story?

Happy New Year

The new year is here already, and, as always, that's hard for me to believe. I celebrated with some friends--eating lots of food and talking and watching an old home video my best friend and I made. Scary stuff, let me tell ya.

And speaking of scary stuff...Earlier in the evening, I was feeding a friend's fish. (I think the fishies did survive. They're tough dudes.) Anyway, here I am in this dark house at night after watching a stupid, somewhat scary movie. In that scary movie, if you heard thump...thump...thump...someone was probably about to die. So there I am, dark house, all alone, and I hear thump...thump...thump...As I reach for my cell phone to call my husband, I realize it's only fireworks...But I called him anyway. Just in case.

So that was my New Year's Eve. Since then, I've been cleaning my house. Yes. A shocker. I actually dusted the blinds. The Christmas stuff is put away. A few more things on my to-do list, and then the house will be ready...to breed dust-bunnies once again as I sink into the couch and stare at my computer screen, telling myself only one more game of solitaire before I dive into the revisions I have to do.

Because yes, 2009 will be a year of changes to me. I mean, I have all my lists of goals and resolutions and plans to lose weight, exercise more, write more, save more, buy a decent car, pray for a bigger house, use all my stationary, etc. But something else will be significantly different.

I'm expecting.

Hey, I had to say it. I've been asked so many times...

Anyway, yes, I'm expecting. I'm due in October. But my child will be small and rectangular and...for sale. lol.

So the first change in my life is an official deadline. Don't think it'll be a problem--I was never late on school assignments unless I'd forgotten about it. Somehow I don't see me forgetting this deadline.

But there are other things I am a bit worried about. Like, say, marketing. And building a loyal readership. Which means almost all of my New Year's Resolutions can be summed up in one...To become more disciplined. I've prayed for that to happen, and it seems kind of like praying for patience. Here's something Oswald Chambers said: God will not discipline us, we must discipline ourselves.

So...here goes nothing...

Merry Christmas To Me (And You, Too)

Last year I came up with my own version of "All I Want for Christmas." My version replaced two front teeth with a two-book deal. Well, that deal still hasn't happened...but I did sell ONE!

Last week I got the call from my agent. Deja Vu, which placed first in the ACFW Genesis contest a few months ago, was picked up by Steeple Hill. Deja Vu is a romantic suspense and will be put out (possibly in October of next year) under Steeple Hill's Love Inspired Suspense line.

Emily Rodmell will be my editor, and I'm looking forward to working with her. She's offered a lot of feedback and encouragement over the last couple of years. It'll be a privilege to have her as an editor.

So...now the party begins! Cheesecake Factory, here I come. And then I'll have to get to work. I'm already learning things about the business side of the writing life. And wondering why I submitted two pages of things I'd do to try to sell my book. Two pages? Oh boy... :-)

I wanted to say a big thanks to everyone who has helped me get this far. Thank you for the advice, the encouragement, the feedback, the hugs and smiles and prayers. I couldn't have done this without you. Merry Christmas!!!
