The People's Place

I may be a long-time Floridian, but it took a while for me to discover this state landmark. :-) The Clark's Fish Camp in Jacksonville, FL. Wow. It was a great experience. The restaurant was hidden away in a residential area, but that didn't hinder the crowds from finding it.

The menu had everything from the regular fish fry and gator options to yak, kangeroo, eel, rabbit, antelope, ostrich, and a long list of other exotic meats. But the really good stuff was the prime rib stuffed portobella. (I know, right?)

The restaurant has indoor and outdoor seating on the river, a very local feel, and supposedly the largest private collection of taxidermy in the world. LOL. There was half a giraffe...no kidding. Who does that?! But it was definitely a memory. One I just might repeat sometime.

Q & A

And when the men had come to him, they said, "John the Baptist has sent us to you, saying, 'Are you the one who is to come, or shall we look for another?'" In that hour he healed many people of diseases and plagues and evil spirits, and on many who were blind he bestowed sight. And he answered them, "Go and tell John what you have seen and heard..." Luke 7:20-22 ESV

Our God's a big God. He can handle doubts and questions. And, though He doesn't have to, He doesn't mind proving Himself to us once in a while.

A Big God

"...to put it bluntly, when you get your own universe, you can make your own standards." Crazy Love by Francis Chan

Yes, He's a God of love. A God I can talk to like a Father, can question and express doubts to. But in the end, this is something to remember: He IS God. Of everything. And, as He made clear to Job, His ways are so much higher than mine. Who am I compared to Him? Dust. Less than that, even. So I don't have to undersatnd everything. And I definitely don't know everything.

And I need to be okay with that.

Follow the Leader

"A disciple is not above his teacher, but everyone when he is fully trained will be like his teacher." Luke 6:40 ESV

Lord, help me to always follow You, and to maintain and heart willing to learn from You.

Retreat

View from one of the rooms at a favorite bed and breakfast of ours. Inn at Still Pond. This would make an amazing writing retreat. One of these days, I'd like to go spend a few days there, writing on the big front porch or by a bonfire or in an overstuffed chair in the living room. Do you have a favorite bed and breakfast? Where would you like to hole up to read or write for a few days?

Known

"He does not have to know us so well, but He chooses to." Crazy Love by Francis Chan

He knows the number of hairs on our head. He knit us together in the womb. He knows when we lie down and when we get up. He knows our sins...and He loves us anyway.

The God of the universe.

Amazing, personal love.

Cuter When He's Sleeping

The angel version of my dog. If you want to see the demon version, just give him a rawhide.
I'm sure that story will end up in a story somewhere.

What's your favorite pet story? What's your favorite animal in literature?

Fishing with Jesus

"And they came and filled both the boats, so that they began to sink." Luke 5:7 ESV

Isn't our God awesome? He didn't just say hey, here's your catch for the day. He likes to do things BIG and give us a bit of a glimpse of what a powerful God we serve.

All or Nothing

"...[Jesus] never begs us to give Him some small part of ourselves. He commands everything from His followers." Crazy Love by Francis Chan

He wants hot or cold. All or nothing. Totally sold out followers. How do I measure? Am I giving Him everything?

Pic of the Week

So, I'm trying to get back into the blogging world. For the millionth time, I know. But I'm thinking if I allow myself to not write an entire chapter for each blog entry, maybe I'll keep up with it for once.
Introducing: the Pic of the Week! Some might call it cheating, but if it works... :-)

I have a typewriter fetish. So when I found this cutie while hunting for a Kindle case, I couldn't resist!

Oh, and yes, I have a Kindle. No, I will not completely convert. Ever. I have mixed feelings about it. But that's a blog for another day. Maybe one where I don't even have to cheat. :-)

Neighborly Love

And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all yuor mind and with all your strength. The second is this: 'You shall love your neighbor as yourself.' There is no other commandment greater than these." ~ Mark 12:30-31 ESV

I tend to be a hermit, a homebody. I'm not observant, so I am not easily aware of the needs of those around me. Sometimes I get set in my routine and don't like to be interrupted. Lord, open my eyes to see. Instruct me in how to be a good neighbor this week.
